Monday 27th July - walk *** – Bramford to Sproughton – some sunny
periods.
The day started sunny but I gave the early morning walk with Mag a miss
this morning, we had a dentists appointment at 10.45 which gave me enough
time for breakfast and exercises in the back garden before I packed a
picnic. By the time we headed to the dentist this morning’s sunshine had
been replaced by cloud and I had a plan after as we headed towards Ipswich
and hit queues for the Orwell Bridge, the problem was heavy traffic at the
Toys R Us roundabout with long tail backs each way! I actually took the
wrong exit off the A 14 but after a drive round Whitehouse we made it to
our destination, the car park by the River Gipping at Bramford. To be fair
it was a pretty uninspiring walk to Sproughton with the river covered in
duck weed, I spent many hours fishing this river at Sproughton many years
ago but everything seems so overgrown but there was some impressive willow
trees. We made it as far as the A 14 Bridge where the traffic was still
queuing! We then needed a seat for our lunch and ended up in the church at
Sproughton which was pleasant enough. We then started the walk back ending
walking over three miles. Wanting to avoid the A 14 I decided to take the
country lane route starting along Paper Mill Lane where Mag used to walk at
the long gone Fisons where we stopped to watch a combine working at the
entrance to the scrap yard! Then onto Claydon, Henley, Playford, Little
Bealings, Martlesham Newbourne and home for a welcome cuppa!
